To achieve our objectives, TGA shall exercise the following duties and responsibilities:
- Preparing annual and five-year plans for its activities within the framework of its general objectives and policies, in coordination with relevant authorities.
- Supervising the implementation of transportation plans across the Kingdom and ensuring the availability of funding for its activities from various sources.
- Proposing general policies and legislation related to transportation and supervising their implementation after approval.
- Ensuring fair competition among transportation service providers.
- Conducting the necessary research and studies to evaluate transportation activities and work towards their continuous development.
- Defining the transportation network and routes.
- Establishing the foundations for regulating the activities of transportation facilities and their management.
- Establishing the technical specifications, conditions, and safety standards required for transportation means and vehicles, in collaboration and coordination with relevant authorities.
- Issuing licenses and permits for all transportation means and revoking them in the event of violations of the provisions of relevant regulations.
- Determining the locations of transportation facilities, in coordination with relevant authorities, and supervising their services, including arrival and departure stations for transportation means and the importance of their proximity to airports.
- Proposing a mechanism to regulate transportation fares and pricing principles, and monitoring compliance with these principles after fares are approved by the competent authorities.
- Monitoring transportation means and facilities in the Kingdom and restructuring them to meet the need.
- Using technology to implement and monitor the Authority's work and mission.
- Preparing the necessary studies for transportation plans and designing transportation systems.
- Monitoring compliance with contracts concluded between the Authority and other parties.
- Working to protect the interests of users related to transportation services, monitoring the performance of those licensed and authorized to provide these services, and taking measures to ensure their compliance with the terms of the licenses and permits granted to them.
- Ensuring the safety of transportation means in cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities.
- Providing appropriate conditions to attract investments in the transportation sector.
- Working to develop the necessary specifications to reduce environmental pollution associated with transportation activities, in cooperation with the competent authorities.
- Coordinating with the General Authority of Civil Aviation and other relevant authorities to ensure the implementation of the national strategy for transportation and logistics services.
- Representing the Kingdom in international and regional organizations related to transportation.

The Council of Ministers issued its Resolution No. (707) dated 30 Dhu al-Qi’dah 1438 AH amending the organization of the Authority to be organizationally linked to the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, and the Authority shall have a Board of Directors whose Chairman shall be appointed by royal decree.
